More Airplay on Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2
Hey Everyone:
Excited to hear there was more
airplay for Clouds with Silver on Bob Harris's acclaimed BBC Radio 2 show
Saturday night, October 4th. The acoustic song 'Here Alone' (featuring acclaimed
Nashville producer David Henry on cello) was played and Bob described me as
"one of our absolute favourites." You can listen again to the show all this week by going to:

Lisa Redford
Clouds with Silver
Parrot Records
****
Having never heard of Lisa
Redford, I found CLOUDS WITH SILVER a sensational breeze of fresh air. The
lyrical and vocal content of all of Lisa's self-penned songs, provide a longing
for more and more accomplished singer-songwriters like herself to come out of
the woodwork. Having been on the scene since 2001, and this being her third
album after the accomplished releases LOST AGAIN and SLIPSTREAM, she has
certainly proven her worth, and so this album is seamlessly full of talent and
exhibits huge successes. She has the vocals of a soft summer's morning, capable
of both the highs and lows, has a smart way with the acoustic guitar and
provides a journey through and through.
My favourite track has to be
Never Was A Yesterday - 'Like there never was a yesterday/Like there never
was a smile upon your face/Like there never was a yesterday/Like there never was
a heart that had to break/Like there never was a yesterday/Like there never was
a price we had to pay.' This is a catchy nostalgic song with all the right notes
to make it capable of becoming a hit.
Within this album you will
find a full band sound provided by Brad Albetta on electric and double bass,
Matt Johnson on drums, Jim Capilongo on electric guitar and others providing a
little violin, cello and strings throughout the tracks. Acoustic rootsy music
tainted with pop and a voice full of sentimentality, assisted by lyrics that
provide a fantastic insight into a world of love, loss and changes, CLOUDS WITH
SILVER gives you the accomplished feeling at the end of Time to Grow that makes
you realise you've just listened to a fantastic female singer-songwriter pour
her heart out for you. It's good, honest, down to earth music.
Other songs to look out for
are Come Back Down, Here Alone and Live Your Life all of which are available to
listen to on her myspace.
A lovely review in the
Manchester Evening News - Friday September 26th.
Lisa Redford
Clouds with Silver (Parrot) ***
Personally,
I have heard one too many wackily characterful female singer-songwriters -- the
ones whose strange vocal tics seem more important than the message in the song.
After Regina Spektor, someone should have said there was no more room on
the bus. Which
is why Lisa Redford is a breath of fresh air. Hers is a pure and quite lovely
voice which delivers some sweet Americana-tinged songs from the heart, all done
to tasteful acoustic arrangements including some nice fingerstyle guitar.
Redford is based in Manchester, but recorded this album in New York with
Brad Albetta (Mr. Martha Wainwright).
Alison Krauss and Kathleen Edwards have been mentioned in connection with
Redford, but the comparison only really holds in terms of vocal purity and the
unfussy acoustic settings.
Clouds with Silver, Redford's third album, does not
generally attempt the emotional darkness of Krauss or Edward's moodier moments.
It's a slightly lighter confection (not necessarily a bad thing) and the
bouncy country song When You Come Home is among the stand-out moments. The
keening high notes of Call Me also betray Redford's affection for Kate Bush -
probably the first of those wackily characterful female singer-songwriters.
