1. The TIME Magazine Article by Bill Gates
I am now back in New York, and have been catching up on emails I promised to send to those of you who sent me emails while I was in Cape Town.
If you haven't yet received an email from me in response to one you sent me, you'll be receiving it soon.
On the plane from Cape Town to Johannesburg on my return home to New York earlier this week, I read an article by Bill Gates that was the cover story on Page 24 of the August 11, 2008, issue of TIME magazine.
The headline on the cover of that issue reads:
How To Help Those Left Behind, by Bill Gates
A new creative capitalism can make the world better for all
The headline and sub-headline on Page 24 reads:
How to Fix Capitalism
In these tough times, it's easy to forget that during the past century, the world has gotten better. But billions have not been able to benefit from capitalism's miracle. Here's how to help them.
Here's a quote from the article:
Even with all the problems we face today, we are at a high point of human well-being. The world is getting a lot better.
The problem is, it's not getting better for everyone. One billion people live on less than a dollar a day. They don't have enough nutritious food, clean water or electricity. The amazing innovations that have made many lives so much better -- like vaccines and microchips -- have largely passed them by.
. . . .
We need a system that draws in innovators and businesses in a far better way than we do today.
It is an excellent article, and it comprehensively echoes my thoughts about this new kind of capitalism I will be promoting in the months ahead.
Bill Gates calls it creative capitalism.
I call it "synergistic philanthrocapitalismTM," because it's capitalism that enables synergies to be created by using capitalism to benefit charities that care for people in need and corporations that are in business to make a profit.
Quite simply, just like you have Web 2.0 for the internet in which you have new tools and technologies to make the internet more interactive and productive, what is beginning to occur in the world is this new kind of capitalism, through which it is not simply enough for a corporations to make profits. Through doing good, corporations make more profits than if they simply do well, an upward spiral of brilliance, joy and prosperity is created, and everyone benefits.
In creating the compilation CD consisting of a song from each musician who ends up in The Alive with Clive Top 20, I will be implementing principles of synergistic philanthrocapitalismTM to make an enduring and uplifting contribution to the world.
So I highly recommend you obtain a copy of the article by Bill Gates and read it.
And, by the way, I like the term synergistic philanthrocapitalismTM so much, I now own the domain name, www.synergisticphilanthrocapitalism.com
2. What's Happening in The Alive with Clive Top 20
While there has been no change in The Alive with Clive Top 5 this week, Irena Makarchuk with the band known as Bermuda Road has made an impressive move up the chart. She has obtained 64 votes over the past two weeks, which is even more than Anthony Melillo, who is still # 1 on the Chart with 457 votes, obtained over the same period. Irena has now moved into 6th place from 9th a couple of weeks ago, and if she and her street team keep up their blistering pace of vote getting, she is sure to be in The Alive with Clive Top 5 soon. Congratulations, Irena!

9. Tom Antion's Upcoming Fusion Seminar in Los Angeles on October 17-19, 2008
One of the fastest ways to make dramatic progress in your career and your life is to attend an Internet Marketing seminar hosted by world-renowned experts in all the different aspects of internet marketing. Some believe you can learn more in three days at one of these seminars than you can in four years at college. Tom Antion, one of the savviest internet marketers in the world, is hosting a dynamic Fusion seminar in Los Angeles on October 17, 18 and 19.
Fusion is "a three day spectacular mixture of internet marketing, professional speaking and success principles that took a small-town kid and made him a multi-millionaire."
If you can find a way to get there, it will -- I promise you -- be one of the most rewarding and gratifying investments of time and money you will ever make in your lifetime. You'll benefit not only from the knowledge you'll gain, but from the discussions you will have with speakers and other attendees and the powerful relationships you will establish for the rest of your life.
