1. The Way Has Been Led, And Now I'm Seeing (RED)!
In the article Bill Gates wrote on Creative Capitalism for the August 11, 2008, edition of TIME Magazine, which I discussed in The Alive with Clive TV Show MagEzine dated September 6, 2008, he referred to eight different examples of the kind of capitalism I call synergistic philanthrocapitalismTM in which businesses and charities prosper by cooperating to create benefits for the communities they serve.
One of the eight examples discussed was the (RED) campaign.
Here's a slightly lengthy -- but nevertheless particularly informative -- passage from the second paragraph of the article by Bill Gates in TIME Magazine:
There's much still to be done, but the good news is that creative capitalism is already with us. Some corporations have identified brand-new markets among the poor for life-changing technologies like cell phones. Others -- sometimes with a nudge from activists -- have seen how they can do good and do well at the same time. To take a real world example, a few years ago I was sitting in a bar with Bono, and frankly, I thought he was a little nuts. It was late, we'd had a few drinks, and Bono was all fired up over a scheme to get companies to help tackle global poverty and disease. He kept dialing the private numbers of top executives and thrusting his cell phone at me to hear their sleepy yet enthusiastic replies. As crazy as it seemed that night, Bono's persistence soon gave birth to the (RED) campaign. Today, companies like Gap, Hallmark and Dell sell (RED)-branded products and donate a portion of their profits to fight AIDS. (Microsoft recently signed up too.) It's a great thing: the companies make a difference while adding to their bottom line, consumers get to show their support for a good cause, and -- most important -- lives are saved. In the past year and a half, (RED) has generated $100 million for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, helping to put nearly 80,000 people in poor countries on lifesaving drugs and helping more than 1.6 million get tested for HIV. That's creative capitalism at work.
Creative capitalism isn't some big new economic theory. And it isn't a knock on capitalism itself. It is a way to answer a vital question: How can we most effectively spread the benefits of capitalism and the huge improvements in quality of life it can provide to people who have been left out?
When I logged onto the Internet last Monday morning, World AIDS Day, the first thing I saw were the promos for (RED)WIRE at http://red.msn.com. And this is what I read:
Today, World AIDS Day, MSN is celebrating the launch of (RED)WIRE, (RED)'s new digital music magazine designed to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. Some of the greatest artists on earth, including U2, Jay-Z, Coldplay, John Legend, Dixie Chicks, The Killers & Elton John, The Police & Elvis Costello, Death Cab for Cutie and Sheryl Crow, have contributed amazing songs to (RED)WIRE. Enjoy these world premieres throughout the day and sign up for (RED)WIRE for so much more.
According to the Press Release announcing the launch of (RED)WIRE, (RED)WIRE "partnered with MSN, one of the world's most powerful online networks, to reach millions of people with its launch event [last Monday]. MSN will also be the premier portal destination for people to learn more about (RED)WIRE artists and hear exclusive music from (RED)WIRE."
Here are additional paragraphs with important
information from the Press Release:
It's encouraging to read about all that is being accomplished with the (RED) campaign, as well as the influential people and organizations with vast resources who are affiliated with it.
And, since I am so in alignment with their mission, it is especially heartening and exciting to know that the possibility exists for us to collaborate in new ways I have now begun to contemplate to raise at least a billion dollars from sales of the compilation CD I am creating with a song from each musician I have interviewed on Alive with Clive who ends up in The Alive with Clive Top 20 on the day voting ends.
Stay tuned for more exciting developments that are likely to have me and you seeing (RED) for a long time to come!
Another news item I noticed just over a week ago is that Madonna's documentary, "I Am Because We Are," about AIDS in Malawi, an impoverished African nation where one million children are orphaned by AIDS, was shown on the Sundance Channel last Monday at 9 p.m.
It's clear, therefore, that much more attention is now being paid to the AIDS crisis in Africa, so all the efforts that are being made to create the Alive with Clive compilation CD are in accord with a need that influential people in the world are realizing must and can be addressed now in innovative ways.
With all these powerful potential influential partners already taking major steps to eliminate AIDS in the world, I'd say if you're a musician eligible for a slot in The Alive with Clive Top 20, it makes a whole lot of sense to put your heart and soul into doing whatever it takes to secure a slot in the The Alive with Clive Top 20 before it's too late! And there is still time to make major progress even if you have been languishing in the bottom half of the Chart or are on the outside looking in.

2. More Evidence of Enthusiasm for Synergistic PhilanthrocapitalismTM!
I received a couple of uplifting emails within the past ten days about synergistic philanthrocapitalismTM from a lady who will be appearing on Alive with Clive on Friday, December 19. Her name is Pamela Moss, she is the founder of InnerVisionPortraits and her Web site, which I highly recommend you visit, is at www.innervisionportraits.com.
In her email to me on Sunday, November 30, Pamela said:
Thought you might be
interested to know I'm applying this concept [synergistic philanthrocapitalismTM]
in my work -- I'm painting a "possibility portrait" of [Barack] Obama
and auctioning it off for charity over the Internet around the time of the
Inauguration.
[T]his will be a gift
that keeps on giving -- the charities and retailers and I will also sell high
quality Giclee prints of the portrait, with a portion of all proceeds going to
the charities (and a portion going to me and the retailers) for years.
It's so much fun to
think of creative "synergistic philanthrocapitalismTM"
projects!
Looking
forward to talking about this and much more on your show,
Pamela

In response to an email I sent her to acknowledge
her email and ask if I could share her email with you, this is what she wrote:
Thanks Clive! Yes,
you can share my email with your list and site.
The Obama project is
actually going forward now -- it's evolved into a collaborative "synergistic
philanthrocapitalismTM"
effort -- and I welcome your support in getting
the word out:
I'm inviting artists
from all over, both emerging artists and famous ones, to contribute images of
Barack Obama for a big "Visions of Obama Charity Art Auction"
which will be held online (and perhaps also in an actual auction house like Sotheby's)
in late January after the Inauguration.
This Inauguration is a
celebration of all the hope and inspiration and transformation that Obama
represents -- so it's a fitting time to honor Obama with our original art, ride
the wave of Obamamania, and use the power of both Obama and art to inspire
and transform in support of a charity that does the same thing.
The charity the Obama
images will benefit is one that Obama himself supports, "Kids in Distressed
Situations Inc." (K.I.D.S.). It's a global charity dedicated to
improving the lives of children and families who are ill, live in poverty, or
are victims of natural disasters.
Obama has said of the
charity, “It is time for a sense of empathy to infuse our politics in
America… K.I.D.S. has spent over 20 years making this a reality.
Now it is time for the rest of us to catch up. I look forward to making
that happen.”
I'm not sure yet if
we'll have 100% of the proceeds go to K.I.D.S., or 80% (with 20% to the
artists). In addition to auctioning off the original artworks, we might
also auction off Giclee prints of the images, or have K.I.D.S. and the
artists sell these on their websites -- with a percentage of each poster going
to K.I.D.S. ongoingly (and a percentage to the artists).
This is an opportunity
for our artwork to make a real difference for children around the world, and
also to be seen by the media, art lovers, Obama supporters, and philanthropists
from all over... Plus it's a chance to network with some pretty amazing
people as we put this together.
I would love it if you
would forward my invitation to your list and site, and ask interested artists to
contact me with their questions -- or just to say "I'm in!" They
should email me at this address: pamela@innervisionportraits.com
Thanks,
Pamela

So, first, Pamela, what you are creating is
fabulous. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Second, what I love is how you are expanding upon
your original idea and that it is now taking on a life of it’s own and having
an impact that is far greater than the one you originally contemplated.
Third, it is providing inspiration to us to begin
to think of ways to implement synergistic
philanthrocapitalismTM
into our thinking, and then to notice all the benefits that result!
So, thank you Pamela.
I’m looking forward to discussing your inner vision, your ideas and
your portraits on Alive with Clive on
Friday, December 19.
3. What's Happening in The Alive with Clive Top 20!
Anthony Melillo continues to reign supreme at the top of The Alive with Clive Top 20 Chart with 1,275 votes, followed by Irena Makarchuk with 1,082 votes and Joe Venice with 491 votes.
Two shifts occurred in the rankings over the past few days:
Joe Travers has moved ahead of Joséphine Ancelle to claim the twelfth spot on the Chart with 67 votes, and Markeisha Ensley has overtaken Diana Page to claim the eighteenth spot with 29 votes.
4. News About The Alive with Clive TV Channel on YouTube
Since the previous issue of The Alive with Clive TV Show MagEzine, I've added three more video clips to The Alive with Clive TV Channel on YouTube. Now they are being posted based on each musician's current rank in The Alive with Clive Top 20.
If you'd like to watch one or more of these videos from all the videos that are available for you to see on The Alive with Clive TV Channel on YouTube, click here now or copy and paste the following link into your Web browser:

Different video clips are getting different numbers of viewers. So, another way to gauge the degree of attention being paid to each musician is to note the number of views his or her video clip is receiving in The Alive with Clive TV Channel on YouTube.
I have listed below the number of views each video clip has received so far to the right of the name of the song of the musician whose video clip is available for viewing on The Alive with Clive TV Channel on YouTube.
When you read this list, bear in mind that some video clips have been available for several weeks, while others have been available for only the last few days.
1. Anthony Melillo -- Kiss Me Sweetly -- 33
2. Irena Makarchuk -- Heartstrings -- 83
3. Joe Venice -- Fall Apart -- 23
4. Cassandra Kubinski -- Cradle The Moon -- 38

Note also that the video of Anthony Melillo, with his brothers Joe and Nick, singing That's My Son -- the song I believe every son wants his parents to hear, on Alive with Clive, currently has 1,554 views on YouTube.

Remember, when you watch these video clips, you're seeing the best songs these amazing musicians have to offer. The lyrics from most of the songs are bound to strike a chord within you and you'll probably want to watch the videos and listen to the songs you especially like over and over again. I personally like some of the songs and ideas expressed in them so much that I've committed their lyrics to memory. And best of all, as you know, you can see all these videos F*R*E*E!
After you watch one or more of these videos, if you want to vote for a musician whose song you like, all you have to do is click here now or copy and paste the following link into your Web browser and vote:

Now that I'm adding video clips to The Alive with Clive TV Channel on YouTube at a faster rate in the order in which musicians are currently placed in The Alive with Clive Top 20, if you want to see a video clip of a musician who is in the bottom half of The Alive with Clive Top 20 or on the outside looking in, simply create a way to generate votes for that musician (or yourself, if you're the musician in question). Hint: Find out what the top vote getters are doing, and copy them or implement methods to get votes they are not yet using. The rewards are likely to be out of all proportion to the minor effort required!
The link to the voting page for you to put on your Web site, My Space page or in emails is:
