A few weeks ago, I told you about a prolific singer-songwriter from my hometown, Cape Town, South Africa, who is producing a song a week on his blog, and who was going to be performing at Rockwood Music Hall on September 16, and be on Alive with Clive on September 19.
Well, I had the pleasure of seeing Simon perform at Rockwood this past Tuesday evening, and interviewing him on Alive with Clive for two shows yesterday afternoon.
Simon has written some of the most penetratingly thought-provoking and moving songs I’ve ever encountered, including such songs as “Google Song,” “Soft Light Shine,” “That Bag of Skin You’re In,” “Delivered Alone,” “Nobody Knows,” “Big Fat Nothing” and “Suffer Well.”
While he has already compiled an outstanding repertoire of songs on the four albums he has produced to date, as I mentioned during the shows we taped today, I’m inspired by the creativity clearly evident in his newest songs – creativity that seems to have been awakened by the discipline and rigor of producing a song a week and posting them on his blog for all to see, hear and appreciate at http://asongaweek.simonvangend.com.

Now, I have good news for you: You can see Simon LIVE today – Saturday, September 20, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. – at Caffe Vivaldi, 32 Jones Street, New York, NY 10014.
He will also be performing starting at 3.30 p.m. at an open mic at The Grand Victory in Brooklyn, and then again from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Branded Saloon on Vanderbilt Avenue in Brooklyn.
Simon is also willing to perform at a house concert in Boston in the evening on Saturday, September 27, or in the New York area on Monday, September 29. If you or anyone you know would like to host a house concert for Simon on these dates, please let me know.
