Hi Friends:
Here’s the latest news for you from the world of Alive with Clive:
1. Update on The 1st Alive with Clive 10K Charity Extravaganza
I’m delighted to report that I will be launching the crowdfunding campaign to raise at least $30,000 for The 1st Alive with Clive 10K Charity Extravaganza within the next couple of weeks!
As previously mentioned, in the Extravaganza I’ll be giving away $10,000 to charities whose supporters enter the Alive with Clive Contest related to the Extravaganza — at the rate of $10 per entry.
Please note that those of you who are on the Alive with Clive email distribution list will soon be receiving an email from me in which I’ll be requesting a small favor from you to enable me to enhance the crowdfunding campaign and Extravaganza for your benefit.
So, please be on the lookout for that email, and when you receive it please do me the small favor I’m requesting as soon as possible. For your efforts, you’ll become eligible to win a special prize if you do!
2. Reminder about Upcoming Rockwood Stage 3 Shows
In my previous newsletter, which you will find when you click here, I mentioned that at Rockwood Music Hall, Stage 3, you will soon have the chance to see two of the four singer-songwriters who are providing CDs as prizes in the current Alive with Clive contest.
Since these shows are fast approaching, here again are the dates:
Brendan O’Shea
Monday, August 25 — 8.30 p.m.
The show starts at 7.30 p.m. with the band known as August Wells.
Cassandra Kubinski —
Wednesday, September 3 — 9.15 p.m.
Note that the entrance to Rockwood Music Hall, Stage 3, is at 185 Orchard Street, not on Allen Street.
3. This Week on Alive with Clive — Leslie DiNicola (1st of 2 shows)
On This Week on Alive with Clive, you have the opportunity to see the 1st of 2 shows featuring enchanting singer-songwriter, Leslie DiNicola, with her band of outstanding musicians – Patrick Firth (keyboard), Brian Killeen (bass), Oscar Bautista (electric guitar) and Ryan Vaughn (drums).
Leslie has frequently been described as “combining the grittiness of Janis Joplin with the vulnerability of Alison Krauss,” and after you watch her perform I’m sure you’ll agree.
To see Leslie’s 1st of 2 shows on This Week on Alive with Clive, and enter the current contest, click here.
Leslie’s second show on Alive with Clive will be available for you to see next Thursday at Noon.
4. The Alive with Clive MVP
A few weeks ago, I created the designation, Alive with Clive MVP, to designate the singer-songwriter or band that generates the Most Vimeo Plays on Vimeo in the five weeks the show is available for viewing through links from https://alivewithclive.tv. As previously mentioned, MVP also stands for Most Viewed Performance.
To date, Worthy Fools is the first and only band to have received the distinction of being an AWC-MVP with 98 views, and the picture of Worthy Fools with an embedded clickable link to its Web site occupies a piece of prime virtual real estate on the Home Page at https://alivewithclive.tv.
Time will tell if fans of Leslie DiNicola will enable her to exceed that number of views over the next five weeks and become the next AWC-MVP to be featured on the Home Page at https://alivewithclive.tv.
5. Save The Date –> Tuesday, Sept. 16, 6 p.m. <– Rockwood, Stage 1
I recently became acquainted with a phenomenal singer-songwriter from Cape Town, South Africa, the city where I was born.
His name is Simon van Gend, and he is the founder of the band known as Simon & The Bande Ά Part.
You’ll find his Web site at: http://simonvangend.com
To date he has produced four CDs, and you can listen to all of them at:
http://simonandthebandeapart.bandcamp.com/
A Song A Week
At the end of February this year, Simon announced that he is going to create a song a week for 52 weeks, and has been posting his songs every week on his blog at http://asongaweek.simonvangend.com/
You will also find several of his newest and some of his older songs at:
https://soundcloud.com/simonandthebandeapart
He has just posted his newest song for Week 26, “After Therapy,” so he is on track with his quest to create a song a week!
Simon’s Creative Songwriting Process
For each song on his blog, he provides a brief description of his thoughts about the song, as well as the song and the lyrics. In addition, for some songs, you’ll find a video of him performing the song too.
Whether or not you’re a singer-songwriter, if you go to his blog you’re bound to become intrigued and fascinated not only by what he is creating but also by how he is creating it.
And he has also provided an extremely informative section on his blog about the creative process he deploys to write his songs.
I’m sure he’ll appreciate receiving comments about his songs from you on his blog at:
http://asongaweek.simonvangend.com/
While his songs before he began his song-a-week campaign are top notch, I personally believe that the rigorous task he has set for himself to produce a song a week is causing him to mine the depths of his creativity to extract his golden nuggets and bring out the best in him.
See Simon LIVE and on Alive with Clive
Now, about Simon, I have good news and I have great news:
The good news is that Simon is about to embark on a U.S. Tour starting with shows in Philadelphia in early September, and I’ll be recording two shows with him for Alive with Clive when he is in New York on September 19.
The great news is that he will be performing LIVE at Rockwood Music Hall, Stage 1 (entrance at 196 Allen Street) in New York City, on Tuesday, September 16, at 6 p.m. So please save the date and meet me there to give him a warm and wonderful Alive with Clive New York City welcome.
You Could Go Home a Winner
At the end of his gig at Rockwood Music Hall, Simon is going to do a drawing to give away the digital code to download his first three CDs and a physical copy of his latest CD to three winners from the pool of those who provide him with their name and email address before he does the drawing. So, if you’re there for the show and provide your info, as one of the three winners home you could go!
